Yes, Ant and Mat, you actually made it into one of my dreams....
I'm sitting with my parents. They turn to me and say,
"We think you need to show your responsibility a bit more, so you're getting a dog"
I take a minute, flabbergasted. (For those that don't know my parents, this is an unlikely, nay, impossible notion)
"So what kind of dog do you want to get?" Mum says
I take a minute to think and then say,
"A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel" (Hereafter CKCS. My favourite type of dog)
Dad gets up and says "Ok" and heads towards the door. I follow.
We walk out onto our street where we see our neighours, Jonathon and his daughter Emily, playing with their little white dog, Teddy. Dad begins talking to Jonathon while I excitedly tell Emily the news.
"No way!" She says, just as surprised as I am.
Dad comes up to Emily and I, holding dog. On closer analysis, it's a lilac CKCS with mauve spots. I look at it in disdain.
"Did you get that from Aldi?"
"It's only temporary, but is this the right kind?"
I nod and he sets the dog down.
"Jonathan (Funnily enough another neighbour with the same name) has one of these dogs, you know" I say.
"Lets go ask him about it then." And Dad sets off up the street.
When we get to Jonathan's house, we see his parents, Fran and Kevin, outside sweeping the driveway.
"We were wondering," I started, then I stopped. What if their dog's died? I thought. Dad seemed to understand.
"Our dog has a headache and we were wondering if you had any panadol for dogs?" He asked.
Fran and Kevin look sad. Fran goes inside the house and comes back with a box.
"Our dog was hit by a car..." She holds out the box. "Take a few of these."
She hands me a pair of scissors and i use them to get a few of the tiny pills out. (For some reason) I hide the pills in my mouth.
As dad and I are walking away I spit the pills out.
When we get back to our street, Mat and Ant are there with Aunty Gloria.
"We're going to get a dog" I tell them.
"HA!" Aunty Gloria says. "That'd be the day."
Dad, Ant and I get into the car and begin to drive. Halfway down the street, Dad stops.
"NO DAD!" I say, "We have to do this now!" (For those of you that don't know, my dad takes AGES to make big decisions and it annoys the crap out of me)
I get out of the car and push the car out of the street and down the hill.
